With AtD it's kind of interesting to figure which places Pynchon saw with 
his own eyes and which are Baedekeresque. It's mere guesswork, but I'm 
pretty sure he's been to England, Austria, Germany and Italy. I'm not sure 
about the Balkan countries and it is very unlikely that he's been to Inner 
Asia.
