i think marukami's japanese readership and his foreign readership are on
slightly different wavelengths...
...Norwegian Wood was by far his biggest seller in Japan (on publication
in 1987) yet nobody here has even mentioned it...
...personaly i rate south of the border west of the sun and one of my
all time favorite short stories...
...and yet...
...(and despite the very good sense of rhythm in the writing and the
excellent translations)...
...i can't help thinking that murakami is a bit of a hack
novelist/marketing man who likes to rehash his old themes...
...more cats etc
