But Weissman in a strange way represents the Nazi plan to transcend the
natural or death by spectacular violence (yes, that sounds weird). Why
sacrifice Gottfried and not himself in the rocket?

Germany's motives under Hitler/Nazis for its numerous invasions was to
steal/hoard all the natural resources so as become self-reliant and
sufficient. Isn't their yearning for the truimph over death in some way some
sort of hunger for self-sufficiency, beyond bodily needs, and pleasures of
the ephmeral mind. weed out the weak, the blood, the individual?

transcendence, at least the good sort, requires hard work and patience,
yeah? not vibrant skips of rifle shot or LSD, eh?

we see it in North Korea today (they call jujce-sp?). the juxtaposition of
bombs bursting on 4th of July, with another Shuttle launch, and the testing
of up to 6 missiles by N Korea (one of which the taepdong, dong!) was not
lost on this reader of Mr Pynchon
