"Die Vermessung der Welt" is a delightful and sometimes very funny 
novel. I recommend it.

Daniel Kehlmann is no Nabokov or Proust, though. I wouldn't know about 
Rowling, but after having suffered through ten pages or so of "The Da 
Vinci Code", I can assure you that he is not Dan Brown either.

Luke Harding is the Guardian's political correspondent in Germany, I 
believe. This would explain some of his other nonsensical statements 
concerning literature, e.g. delightful authorial irony is the big new 
thing in German literature, because writers are no longer looking to 
Thomas Mann for inspiration.
