Playboy Japan interview

Whether or not the Playboy Japan article at some point
in the future turns out to be proven a hoax is
immaterial to me. The whole story has been typically
Pynchonesque and fascinating from the start, when the
article first appeared in Playboy Japan. I do think
it's important to keep the record straight, in a
matter that I helped bring to the attention of the US
Pynchon community in the first place. 

It remains true, as I said, that

As we've seen, there's no credible evidence that
Melanie Jackson told anybody anything at all about the
Playboy Japan interview, much less that she made any
sort of specific denial of its authenticity.

Maybe she did - who knows? Nobody on Pynchon-L,
apparently. Until it's demonstrated that she made such
a statement, I suggest it's probably not a good idea
to offer this unsubstantiated rumor as proof of
anything, or to demonstrate that the questions
surrounding Playboy Japan interview and article have
been settled to anybody's satisfaction. 

And I think that settles that.
