Browsing the New Yorker files I found something I didn't know.
The city of Springfield, Massachusetts, has honored its leading
founder, William Pynchon, by naming a handsome history museum after
him and in many other ways, but, though everybdy pays tribute to him
as a pioneer settler in the Agawam country, the fact he was the
father of the meatpacking industry is always politely overlooked.
from a March 27, 1948, New Yorker profile about another meatpacker,
Henry Blackman Sell. p.32
Any relation, Otto?
