Pynchon genealogy

This miight help in understanding why the author is  sometimes  
called  T. R. Pynchon Jr. and his father Sr, instead of V and IV,  
respectively?  Could this be because V. and IV are not in the same  
direct line as II and III and that at the time IV was named the  
immediate family was not yet aware of earlier T. R. Pynchons,  were  
still unaware in 1937 when V came along?

Might be something else entirely. I'v e never paid much attention to  
any of this.

By the way if my count is right the author is great great great great  
great great great grandson of William.
