I've read it and, page by page, I suppose that's true, but it's on a smaller 
scale than what I think are his best novels.  It's more reminiscent of The 
Dying Animal than it is of his larger novels..  But the writing's 
superb--fat-free, intense--and it will likely have you thinking about growing old in a new 
light.  Plus it mines again his childhood in New Jersey, something on which he 
can spin endless variations and still be compelling.  But not new, and not as 
rich as The Plot Against America or American Pastoral.
