M&D is the flip side of GR, or GR inside out, or something like that.
Conjugate, yeah, that's the word I want. The two novels illuminate
one another, and to compare them for "quality" misses the point. GR
is about war and death (also friendship and youth), M&D is about life
and love (also slavery in all its guises).
On its own, M&D is easily the best novel I've ever read about America.
