What I happened upon....

To be honest, when I made my comment I thought that Jackson was in his
late teens and starting college. I've never really looked into it - I
drew the assumption from the claim that he had a facebook page, which
used to be only for college students, but I guess they're allowing
high schoolers on now too. So I was coming more from a point where
the photo is pretty innocuous in and of itself (it's just them and
their band) but I guess I was way off as far as his age went, and that
photo is more recent than I believed. It's still a very innocent
photograph, and Pynchon Jr. can certainly choose whether to put his
own self out more than his dad does.
The fact remains that there isn't anything to gain in regards to
Pynchon's writings from anything his son might do, has done, will do,
whatever. I think it might be best if we simply do not involve
ourselves in anything relating to his family... I mean, Pynchon
paying $50 to start a pie fight, or the fact that he carried a pig
around, OK, maybe a bit of insight as to what kind of author he is.
The fact that his kid plays keyboard, means nothing to us in relation
to any of the writing, and by looking into it in any degree whacks a
little too close to the papprazzi following Brittany Speares around
trying to get photos of her kid. Do you get what I'm saying? It
would be kind of like if someone I never met and who lived in another
state dropped me an email saying that they saw my girlfriend the other
day... even if he meant it respectfully and with good intention it's
still like... wtf... why are you looking at my girlfriend, how do you
know me or her... etc.
So Dave, basically, I can see why you might be motivated to do
something like that, and it's not like I think you're going to go hide
in their bushes or something, but it's one of those things that might
just be better left untouched with a ten foot pole. Y'know? I think
we should have just disregarded that first bit about his kid being on
the facebook and let it drop entirely and not so much as run a google
search. As a disclaimer I'm not trying to chastize anyone here or
anything, just trying to explain why it should just be dropped and we
should go back to postulating intricacies of Gravity's Rainbow, etc.
