FOLLOWING SEAN
2005, Ralph Arlyck, USA, 88 min.

"A translucent new movie. . . this is the finest film I've seen in 2005."--Gerald Peary,
Boston Phoenix

"At the end of Ralph Arlyck's movie, I found myself touching the corners of my eyes and looking around to see if others were doing likewise. (They were.)"--Leah Garchik, San Francisco Chronicle

In 1969, filmmaker Ralph Arlyck's short documentary SEAN chronicled the life of his game 4-year-old Haight-Ashbury neighbor, a feisty, pot-smoking mophead quipping wisdom way beyond his years. Arlyck's signature piece, the film became an award-winning underground hit and an above-ground scandal. More than 30 years later, the director is prompted to track down Sean to discover who that precocious boy grew up to be. As much about Arlyck's own life in the intervening years as about his subject's, FOLLOWING SEAN is a resonant reflection on the aftermath of the Sixties, and a poignant ode to the dreams of the American counterculture. 35mm.
