JERK BOOTED FOR COLUMBINE CRACK
POSH HS KICKS KID AFTER WEB THREATS
By ELIZABETH WOLFF and JANON FISHER
November 5, 2006 -- A 15-year-old misfit at one of the
city's ritziest high schools threatened "to go
Columbine" on nine teachers and kids last week.
The Collegiate High School 10th-grader had dropped
hints of the demonic plot, which he dubbed "Operation
Champagne," on the Web before he was suspended late
last week, school officials said.
After getting mercilessly bullied by fellow students,
the teen scrawled a glaring announcement that he was
going "to go Columbine on this f - - - ing school" on
a message board in the student lounge Wednesday
afternoon, according to many students at the school.
Frightened students, whose high-powered parents
include Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, Vogue editor
Anna Wintour, US Weekly and Rolling Stone publisher
Jann Wenner, author Thomas Pynchon, and billionaire
media fund manager Steve Rattner, immediately alerted
school administrators.
The school contacted the boy's parents and had him
removed from school Wednesday. On Thursday, the school
called police.
"We received information about a student making
threats to other students and faculty, and we
responded promptly," said Lee Levison, headmaster of
the all-boys' K-12 school, which has 633 students and
costs $27,100 per year.
NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said the police "thoroughly
investigated the incident and took appropriate
action."
The boy was taken to St. Luke's Roosevelt hospital; he
was home with family yesterday.
Sources said there was no indication the teen had any
weapons. Cops didn't believe the incident "rose to the
level of making a terrorist threat," one source said.
The boy, whom fellow students described as a socially
awkward teen who suffered brutal teasing over his
acne, had written a hit list of nine faculty members
and students in which he said he wanted to "blow their
brains out," said school spokesman Howard Rubenstein.
"He made some very ugly threats that he would shoot
people," said Rubenstein. "That he would blow their
heads off."
Leading up to Wednesday's confrontation, the teen
hinted at his plan on the social-networking site
facebook.com.
On Monday, his page showed that he was "planning the
most devious plan EVER." The next day he wrote that he
was "Entering stage 1 of Operation Champagne."
On the morning of the blowup, he talked of "basking in
his victory."
On Friday, Collegiate students told The Post the teen
had gotten into a fight with a younger student a few
weeks ago, and that he had even suggested several
times on facebook.com that the boy "kill himself."
That student, other reputed school bullies and some of
the stricter faculty members were on the teen's hit
list, sources said.
The troubled teen, whose parents are divorced,
apparently had few friends.
His parents refused to comment and referred all
questions to a lawyer whose name they did not relate.
While expressing concern for the boy's mental health,
a group of sophomores described him as an outcast and
jested at his cry for help.
Garrett Smith, one boy reported to be on the hit list,
joked with a buddy online: "Yeah if I get shot
tomorrow do you want my Xbox?"
