Yardley is pretty well on the record as not appreciating Pynchon and
his ilk. In my experience, he has become a dogmatic and close-minded
reviewer, an older guy lamenting an era that has passed. That said,
he has loved some books that I love too -- mostly the Michael Chabon
novels.
I'd be stunned if he reviewed AtD.
By the way, unable to resist, I went into a local Barnes and Noble
this evening and tried to talk some people into selling me one early,
claiming I was leaving the country for a month and didn't want to
wait until next year to read the book. I got stared at funny. Then
I was told that books are absolutely not put on sale until the
release date, and that the boxes are sealed and labeled, etc. I
believe I said, "Aw, c'mon, there's got to be one back there out of
the box, baby, . . . ."
No dice.
I wait.
