I think TP would shudder to think he's become a Master... one of THEM...
author of The Book...
i think, seriously... TP would rather us all go out and play in the dirt,
make love, get high, and die on our terms (whatever they may be)... really
attempt to live "life to the fullest" rather than study his works, and drool
like the Dogs of Pavlov at The Release of his newest.
with regard to this comment though... it was very thought-provoking:
Half this list thinks that Pynchon should be read as a
text, as a font of wisdom or, at least, information, much of it hinted at
rather than laid out.
My opinion...
I think the very things he hints at are the same things life hints to all of
us in various ways... i think his work reflects the ability to at least know
you're picking up various signs, hints, messages and what-not all stemming
from "the vessel" shattered at creation... whatever it is out there that
makes, to paraphrase, everything connect. Not being able to know what that
exactly is... is also reflected in his work, but does not, not ever,
discount the fact that you pick these things up... much like the
sound-shadows. This whole feeling that... there is a conspiracy... out
there... intangible... inhuman...
maybe he expected, simply... to make those that feel they FEEL SOMETHING OUT
THERE... not so alone.
but maybe I'm wrong... of course ... I am starting to think that living life
to the fullest may include the study of his works.
but then again... I still have 2 episodes left of GR (!!!!) so I'm CLEARLY
SWOONING over this stuff. Puppy love, i think they call it.
