It's been known since the 70s that Pynchon was writing
about the Mason & Dixon line, which as we know was
surveyed in colonial America. ....

I've had a copy of Fathers and Crows on my shelf since
it came out, and I've dipped into it a bit. I read
Francis Parkman's France and England in North America
while I was reading M&D the first time, in 1997, and
really enjoyed its view into the early American scene.
By the time I finished the two books I wasn't
terribly inspired to read Fathers and Crows, sorry.
