Read the first Flashman book after seeing the BBC production of Tom Brown's Schooldays, in which the character of Flashman was originally introduced. I don't really see a connection between Flashman and ATD --he's more of a British soldier/adventurer/rake than an All-American (virtuous) Boy Hero.
