By the way, in answer to those asking why we Pynchon fans can't abide
negative ATD reviews, speaking just for myself I'd say we can, if
they're intelligent and reasoned (which a couple of them have been) but
we get impatient when the reviewer seems to be ignoring Robert
Zimmerman's advice, "don't criticize what you can't understand". And
then there's that even more egregious category headed up by Laura Miller
of Salon, in which the review seems to be an attempt to smother the book
under a blanket of stupidity.
