 Ya Sam might like a novel called Push, by a novelist
called Sapphire.  I don't know if she's published
anything else, but this one's good. It's written from
the point of view of an inner city black woman
learning how to write, keeping a journal, coming to a
sense of herself.  The language might be a bit
challenging, however, but maybe Dave can find you a
nice online Ebonics glossary.
