Depends on your exposure to the violence in literature (described in a 
poetic and, yes, beautiful way). All those comparisons are indeed trite, but 
I think someone said that Blood Meridian is Hieronimus Bosch meeting Sam 
Peckinpah, and I would subsribe to that. Besides, the use of language in 
this book is truly astounding.

Harold Bloom's ass seems to be still aching...
