Who needs ads when the PR on ATD, the much anticipated novel by the TRP,
the blah blah blah who blah blah blah is worth a thousand pictures?

I haven't been reading the book trade papers so I
don't know if any ads targeting booksellers have
appeared yet, but I'd expect that, in Publishers
Weekly and such.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some advertising that
would reach a larger group of Pynchon readers, maybe
in some publications known for serious book reviews, a
bit closer to the publication date or simultaneously.

Some movie trailer-style book ads are starting to be
appear, maybe Pynchon's publisher will put up such a
video on GooTube? A long shot, perhaps, although I do
think they have done a good job of keeping the buzz
going online. If I were the publisher, I'd get
Pynchon to narrate a brief passage from the novel, and
package that with news about the book and send it out
as a podcast, too.

Wouldn't be surprised to see something in the paper by
Pynchon, and I wouldn't bet money against some sort of
something bigger - an interview with him, perhaps, in
a US, UK, or European publication.
