Can't very well understand post-Christian Europe (or America) without  
understanding Christian Europe.

Can't have a post-something without the something.

Post-modernism . . . . needs modernism . . .

Many non-believing writers have displayed an understanding of belief,  
even found things to admire in it.

Proust Is an example. Never went to  mass again after his first  
communion but was not negative in his treatment of religion.

Even with regard to the Dreyfus case.
