If it comes out that the excerpt appearing in the catalogue, which was
then posted to the Gaddis list and from there onto the p-list, was part
of some evil genius's masterful marketing strategy then I'll eat...well
I don't currently own a hat, lets say I'll eat the hat of your choice.
Who have they got in charge of promoting this thing, Karl Rove?

Penguin are alleged to have created this slow-burn 'buzz', much of it
online, and yet still have no ATD website, and all it says on the
Penguin site is "This book is not yet published", and still lists the
page count at 992.

I wasn't subscribed to this list then, but looking back in the archives
there are posts from a lady who was in charge of the online promotion of
M&D. One might wonder why there's no equivalent now.

Yes, and Salman Rushdie could play the role of Allen Ginsberg, chatting
in the background and striding away at the end, swinging his cane. I see
Rushdie gets a strapline on the front of today's (UK) Independent
newspaper, claiming "We're all living under fatwa now". Thanks for that,
Sal!
