that's possible...OTOH, not knowing how NBA works, but having been on a committee or two over the years, I can imagine a couple issues, one being it's unlikely that either NBA would solicit ARCs or Penguin would approach them prior to their deliberations (especially in the context of what I'm beginning to believe pynchonoid when he calls a low-key viral marketing campaign), and another being something one might call residual serious-pissage over the last one (committees not being known for senses of humor)
I doubt she's even seen the book, although maybe she's enough of an insider to have (some days I wish I were)
Dave's been quiet, must have gotten his ARC

No. It sounded to me like Marianne W. was saying ATD was a big pile of crap. I checked the NBA rules on this and they say that...
D. Books scheduled for publication between December 1, 2005 and November 30, 2006 are eligible.
See for yourself. http://www.nationalbook.org/nbaentry.html
Publication date on ATD is November 21, 2006 per Amazon. Wasn't it moved up from Christmas for NBA eligibility in the first place? Anyway, Marianne W. has written many a crap book in her own right (John Dollar).

The galley is actually opened to the inside front page, isn't it.
Wasn't Marianne Wiggins comment re AtD that "it was patently obvious it
wasn't a contender" simply an acknowledgement that the novel's release
date etc meant it didn't meet the rules of the contest. That's the way
I read it anyway.
