Q. It has been said (conjectured) that your writing is that of a 
contemporary Italian Pynchon. Partially I think it is true. Nevertheless, I 
believe – perhaps mistakenly- that there is a very strong component of 
Cervantes, or rather the intuition of a cultural Renaissance skilfully 
‘poisoned’ by baroque anxieties, weaving quite a modern epic-chivalric 
parody. Is there anything true in my observation? and if there is, why?

A. I would say Cervantes and Rabelais. However, I wouldn’t like to give the 
impression that I’m annoyed by constant references to Pynchon. I am a 
Pynchon fan, I have read and re-read everything by him, I even tried to 
research more trash aspects of his mysterious myth (where he lives, what 
face he has, what music he listens to). If I hadn’t read Gravity’s Rainbow 
and Mason & Dixon, I would have never written Perceber; at least not the way 
I did it.

cadendo in errore - che c’è anche una forte componente à la Cervantes, 
ovvero l’intuizione per un Rinascimento culturale abilmente inquinato da 
inquietudini barocche, tessendo una parodia epico-cavalleresca assai 
moderna. C’è del vero in questa mia osservazione? e sì, perché?

Cervantes e Rabelais, direi. Ma non vorrei dare l’impressione di essere 
infastidito dal costante riferimento a Pynchon. Io sono un fan di Pynchon, 
me lo sono letto e riletto tutto, sono andato alla ricerca pure degli 
aspetti più trash del suo mito misterioso (dove vive, che faccia ha, che 
musica ascolta). Se non avessi letto L’arcobaleno della gravità e Mason & 
Dixon, non avrei mai scritto Perceber; almeno, non nel modo in cui l’ho 
fatto.
