Sorry to hear that, I had some email correspondence
with Kalfus several years ago when I was reviewing his
first book - a good collection of stories, including a
couple I really enjoyed, about baseball - for the SF
Chronicle Book Review when that pub was edited by none
other than the p-list's own David Kipen.

Kalfus was living in Moscow then, if I remember
correctly (it's been a few years) - I believe his
girlfriend or wife had a job over there or something
like that. He said he has read Pynchon and considers
Pynchon a big influence on his work.
