Steampunk for Pynchon readers

"The Steampunk Trilogy" by Paul DiFilippo - a long term member of this
list - would be an obvious route.  "The Difference Engine" by Gibson &
Sterling and "The Diamond Age" by Neal Stephenson are worth reading.
