Hard covers and lack thereof

Paperbacks tend to disintegrate. Anyway, there is a limit to a the volume of 
paperback library in one's backpack. And I HATE the creases that appear on 
the spine after a first reading. And there is a good chance of ending up 
with two halves of one book upon a second reading.
