The section you're referring to is the Lyle Bland one, circa p. 590 [Penguin], depending where you want to start.  Personally, I like the "Slothrop family history" section, p. 26 (starting with "It was one of those great iron afternoons in London) to the end of the section on p. 29.  This gives a snapshot of what the book is going to be like, introduces Slothrop and develops the themes of paranoia, death from the sky, etc.  And it's close enough to the beginning to encourage the students to read what comes before it and, hopefuly, what comes after it.
