I've only read Wind-up Bird Chronicle. I found it tedious, not particularly thought-provoking, and kind of self-consciously cute. The magical stuff seemed contrived, and not organic to the story or atmosphere of the book. If anyone here thinks Murakami's other books are drastically different or better, I might be willing to give him another try.
