stray thoughts:
1) maybe there was something in the drinks at the
Lollipop Lounge?

2) Dr Zoot - "workingman's fatigues, carpet-slippers, smoked goggles,
and a peculiar helmet punctuated over its surface
by not entirely familiar electrical fittings."
- "Back to the Future" Christopher Lloyd image forms...

3) Breguet-style openwork -
from Wikipedia "Breguet has recently introduced
a line of writing instruments as a tribute to
writers who mention or feature Breguet watches in their works."
---coming soon: the Pen-chon?
what I picture as "openwork" is the
eye-pleasing little round holes in the clock hands

4) Dr Zoot sets up shop in the shadow of the
"Doleful City" arch, but also of the 9th avenue El

which apparently was completing a transition to
electric power (from steam) in 1903.
