Thomas Pynchon's novel "Gravity's Rainbow" uses the Orpheus myth as one
structure, with Slothrop as Orpheus and postwar Germany as Hades. There are many
references to the afterlife in Slothrop's "descent" into the continent, the
yacht the Anubis being one example.

Lust translates Joy. I'da guessed as much.

Rose, oh reiner Widerspruch, Lust, Niemandes Schlaf zu sein unter soviel Lidern.
Rose, oh pure contradiction, joy of being No-one's sleep, under so many lids.

A program named Project Hostile Intent (PHI) is aiming by 2010 to develop technology
that can scan the bodily functions of citizens without them knowing and uncover any
possible hostile intent or deception

Peter McOwan, a computer scientist who is developing sensors to detect people's moods
at Queen Mary, University of London, told the Guardian: "It's just like something from
Minority Report. They have been watching too many Tom Cruise movies."

I wonder, will they turn this upon, or de-tune it for, politicians?
