This makes lots of sense.  I was a bit mystified by the whole thing.

But what's really interesting is how they interact with the Chums, and
how the Chums react to their presence.  The Chums' as an organization
falls apart, points fingers fear-mongering and accusing fingers, some
retreat into fantasy, everyone experiences a sort of fall from grace
(if that's what they had previously).  If the Chums are the
counterforce keeping the Trespassers at bay, they seem to be doing it
accidentally.

This section is very interesting, but also very confusing to sort out...
