Again, a figure even more enigmatic than Mr. Ace, who at least gets a
few lines of dialogue in. But note again how "the 'Old Man'" is
described, first off, scare-quoted, but that "bobbed," that "its,"
those "gold teeth" (likely a Bad Sign in Pynchon), hints of McClintic
Sphere in V. (those 'seams," that instrument), and unmistakable
allusions to Tyrone Slothrop in GR (the desk, the toilet) ...
