After sitting on the shelf the past few years, Erik Larson's best-selling
novel about the 1893 Chicago World's Fair is back on track for a trip to the
big screen. In 2003, Tom Cruise and his partner, Paula Wagner, bought the
film rights to The Devil in the White City, which interweaves stories about
Daniel Burnham and the creation of the Columbian Exposition with the twisted
crimes of serial killer H.H. Holmes.
Cruise and Wagner's option on the book expired in 2004, but now producers
Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher -- whose work ranges from the acclaimed
''World Trade Center'' to the upcoming, wacky ''Reno 911!: Miami'' -- will
be turning Larson's book into a movie for Paramount Pictures.

No word yet on casting.
