The wild metaphors of GR have always been a big part of its appeal to me, as 
never before nor after did P. conduct such experiments with the language. 
AtD is very hard in terms  of historical and scientific references but apart 
from that (as well as some obscure languages spoken not always 
idiomatically, i. e. the Russian obscenities are very harsh) its language is 
pretty lucid. I think wih GR P. was taking to the estremes his fascination 
with poetic surrealism.
