Upon reading the sentences in the book, they seem innocuous.
I should turn the gain down on my looking for something odd.

-----I liked what I found. I think the twinned extra-grammatical applications of phrases to the verbs enhance the meaning 
and the feel of the passage. I'm afraid I didn't convey very well the bliss I got, and I'm not sure it's what you (or Pynchon) 
were/was driving at there. Wish I could explain it better - hence my disclaimer to disarm any "oh he's got
Iceland spar on the brain and sees double images everywhere"
