In most cases, a technician wouldn't pay much attention, because, he will 
never have heard about Pynchon. TRP isn't that famous, not at all. It was 
quite shock for me to talk to several American literature students (not even 
freshers) one day. We discussed Ezra Pound and Joyce, if my memory serves me 
right. When I mentioned Pynchon, I got blank stares, they never heard of 
him. I think it is quite a coincidence when someone who accidentally meets 
Pynchon is someone who has actually read his books. I think it has happened 
of course, but not that often. For most piano-tuners or cable guys (and some 
literature majors!) he is just some Mr Pynchon.
