In most cases, a technician wouldn't pay much attention, because, he will
never have heard about Pynchon. TRP isn't that famous, not at all. It was
quite shock for me to talk to several American literature students (not even
freshers) one day. We discussed Ezra Pound and Joyce, if my memory serves me
right. When I mentioned Pynchon, I got blank stares, they never heard of
him. I think it is quite a coincidence when someone who accidentally meets
Pynchon is someone who has actually read his books. I think it has happened
of course, but not that often. For most piano-tuners or cable guys (and some
literature majors!) he is just some Mr Pynchon.
