Bob Dylan and Close Encounters of the Pynchon kind.

I think most literature majors have _heard_ of Pynchon, but he is not really
considered required reading for lit classes, so he kind of gets shrugged
along the wayside. Can you imagine trying to cram Gravity's Rainbow into a
course curriculum? Pynchon has his own rhythms, and I think each reader must
approach him at his/her own pace -- this isn't really conducive to the kind
of regimented study that a class would require.
When I tell people I'm reading Pynchon, their response is either 1) a blank
state or 2) "Holy shit." When I tell them I'm doing it just for the sheer
enjoyment of it... well... <laughs>
