Can't agree. It is exactly this vulgar scrum of commerce (the Oprah's logo,
the bookmark, what next: action figures?) which is 'added spice'. Before
that 'The Road' was just a book by Cormac McCarthy. This one, besides being
McCarthy's book, is also a commodity of Oprah's empire, and I don't want it.
She could have advertised it on her show without 'appropriating' it, the
sales would have increased OK.
McCarthy's text tastes good, you're right, but Oprah's packaging is liable
to spoil my appetite. I don't think I would buy a sandwich wrapped in toilet
paper.
And I am pretty much satisfied with my present incarnation.
