Mike Bailey:
so the casualties mount: first Glenn's copy, now
yours. The binding seemed fairly sturdy to me,
but your reading is more intensive...
Be sure to mention "obsessive-compulsive".
Me:
The longer I read the book, the more tabs go in
(I'm using wood glue to get the pages back into
the so called spine of the novel---[suddenly switches
to Ben Stein's voice]: "Anybody? Anybody?")
Mike Bailey:
another TV reference that I find opaque...
Ferris Bueller's Day Off---[one of those running family jokes, as my wife and
my elder sister are teachers]---It's the sound of one lonely teacher,
acclimated to being ignored, seeing if anyone in the class is still awake
[also aware that his is the most soporific sound yet issued forth from a
human larynx] calling out, much like Diogenes with his lamp in broad
daylight, for one with the will to stay awake in the midst of such a sedative
environment. Mostly it's on account of the "so-called spine" part, seeing
as a number of auditors of the work have bemoaned a certain structural
shapelessness found in this overstuffed shaggy-dog tale.
OK, so you're linking the Grand Cohen (Crowley/
Nookshaft) to Genghis Cohen (Lot 49 stamp maven)
and putting them in the Alternate Communication
Channel category together...
Czech!
a-and that category is in the same class of
categories as Anarchism/Gilded Age, and Occult/
Spiritual/Sacramental Substance---so, in a way these
might be like the 3 Supernal Sephiroth...wrt to the
Tree of Life animating AtD in your reading
Pole!
Well, you sped past me there, I'm using each of the colored tabs as markers
demarcating several themes one would have expected to find from the author's
previous history like theosophy and laudenum. In addition to Pink, Purple,
Green and Yellow, there's Red for literary reference/literary quality and every
now and then, blood. Blue is science, and there's plenty of blue tabs and more
added all the time. The rare Orange tab is for music, which might end up as
Yellow tabs {got plenty} with Orange stars {ditto} for music. Music---obviously
---is taken very seriously in AtD. Once again we are in the presence of the
strange magic emanating from Ruperta Chirpingdon-Groin. The glittering
stars share the same color code, therefore [much like the I-Ching] paradoxical
readings are mapped. But I am not anywhere near as knowledgeable as you
concerning the Kabbalah, I've just been around it so often I know what it smells
like. What I'm doing is really is more like a horse race---trying to find out what
themes OBA's used before that he's using again. So Anarchy and Pynchon's
Joseph Campbell-like cataloging of spiritual systems/states are duking it out for
frequency of use. But a lot [and I do mean a lot] of COL 49 references pop
out, particularly after multiple readings of both. General note---the COL49 stuff
is coming off as deliberate parody and lies close to spying/encryption of all sorts.
The mere presence of Nookshaft focuses on a co-joining of the occult and
spying/intelligence gathering that mimics and greatly exceeds COL49.
William Logan:
nearly half a century ago, like a chemical process
that on repetition grows less efficient and the
resulting solution less potent, until it does not work
at all.
Mike Bailey:
what kinda process izzat? distillation gets stronger on
repetition...
Bong Hits!!!
MB:
what I was wondering is, isn't the spirit of 68 which in
many ways is the coequal and culmination of that 60s
stuff, I say, I say, isn't that entity animated by the
same stream of thought as po-mo?
What I'm wondering is: is Post-Modernism really "Post-God"?, where the
old mono-theological myths eventually perish, as did [for the most part]
the old polyandry of the deities? Or is it the intellectual equivalent of the
Neo-Cons?
MB:
Like, the supernal triad here would be
Binah
60s stuff including the "events" & counterculture
Chokmah
theory from structuralism to postmodernism and beyond
Kether
Pynchon's novels
now me, I read Pynchon primarily for the verbal felicities
and the memorable characters, but nothing wrong with
entertaining an entertaining theory or two...
See, my spiritual teachers don't go for this hierarchical shit, no way man,
more like straight up 24fps radicals. Like, you wanna get down/then get
down, and like calling it "black" magic---well it's fucking time you embraced
that, it's just like "Black Power", like this is really making racist judgments, man
usw. Can't imagine anything/body more firmly lodged in Malkuth than Brigidier
Pudding, and TRP did come up with that particularly foul gas transmission,
didn't he? Anyways, Our Beloved Author really belongs in Tipheret along with
Byron the lightbulb and other feebs who are hepped to what's goin' down but
are just too helpless to do anything about it..
