Don't know if the possible relevance of the fact that a turning  
windmill looks like a big wheel in the sky has been mentioned.

At the beginning of Part 4, Pirate is experiencing Frans van der  
Groov's dream of "windmills that turned in shadow at the edges of  
dark fields, each arm pointing at a spot on the rim of a giant wheel  
that turned through the  sky . . . ." (p. 620)

This image might be seen to relate to Weisenburger's note on the  
"bicycle rider in the sky" passage (p. 501)  which he relates to  
Weissmann's tarot  in which the latter appears  as a rider on a black  
horse.

Different kind of rider but what the hey.f
