Here's something else: we're told that on the night in question, when the 
creature 'escaped' and the disaster began, Hunter was already on his way out 
of town. So, since he arrived on the same boat as the Figure, he can't have 
stayed very long in New York (if it is NY). So why the early departure? 
Nothing to see in the big city? Or maybe a premonition of what might happen?
