I use the word 'Nunatak spirit' simply for the lack of a more appropriate 
term. What this thing is exactly is difficult to determine. In a way it 
echoes back to the frozen spider monkey in V., whose symbolicity may be 
argued about (somebody wrote that it was a metaphor for uranium) but at 
least we have a concrete object before us, a monkey. In case of that thing 
in AtD, it is much more fuzzy. As a metaphor for 9/11, odalisque may denote 
the suicidal slaves of Al-Qaeda, but there is more to that. Maybe there is 
also some literary reference here, anyone read anything about treacherous 
and murderous odalisques?
