I'm not equipped to read this, but as I grow older I find it easier to
see what Pynchon has in common with Shakespeare, and Dickens, and Dante.

All give me a sensation of *plenitude* -- of an imagined world as
bursting and conglomerate as this one with baroque curlicue, expected
and unexpected connection, baggage of history and portent. And plenitude
over my lifetime now, too, because they give me something new whenever I
return.

What shall we do (what shall we do) with all this useless beauty?

Thank you, Mr. Pynchon, happy birthday, and many more.
