        Bryan Snyder:
        The Lake-Gottfried comparison is very
        interesting... but there's definitely a 
        difference in regard to TRP's intention 
        with the both.  I think there's  nothing 
        going on in any of his novels, at least 
        past GR, that is unintentional, so I think 
        Lake's thinness as a character is 
        mysteriously purposeful.

And there's something about her Lakeness as well. You really need
to go on to pages 1040-1059 to look for all the pregnancy/stillbirth
echos of Ms. Maas and Lew's Illumination of the Hollywood scene,
transposing what Mr. Basnight had learned from the Cohen onto
his practice as a detective. I can't claim to understand the dream 
we get to share with Lake, but it's definitely worth the detour. This 
does constitute a spoiler, so if you haven't been there already, 
save it for later.

I suspect the only thing unintentional in The Crying of Lot 49 is
Oed's parking in Berkeley and San Francisco.
