My first lead ended up being a dud:

Simon Ingersoll was the inventor of the first pneumatic drill for use
in mining excavation.

Ingersoll's design also featured an innovative tripod, and was
significantly lighter than other drills.

"On March 7, 1871 Ingersoll received his basic rock drill patent.
There had been earlier drills, designed for mining and tunneling and
mounted on carriages. Ingersoll mounted his drill on a tripod
equipped with leg weights to hold it steady."

The Ingersoll in question is rather a pocket watch being used as a
timing mechanism:

"One company is famous for the first genuine Dollar watch -
Ingersoll. They produced the first Dollar Ingersoll Watch in 1881 via
a New York based mail-order business set up by brothers Robert &
Charles Ingersoll."

Perhaps the extra dollar for ATD's Ingersoll is the cost of
converting a pocket watch into a timing mechanism.
