I think perhaps she's also drawn to the possibility of "controlling" 
the bad guy.   This is brought up later in the book  (pgs 470s)  and 
I forgot to mention it here.     It's somewhat like the draw and 
challenge of breaking a wild horse,  at least to a degree.
