Guys, guys...
stepping in with my pixilated take ("blessed are the cheesemakers",
by which I mean all producers of dairy goods...)

1) quoting Wikipedia doesn't scream "credibility" either...

2) finding the phrase "blown away" objectionable is reasonable,
although I don't...
ie, if somebody said "blown away by the CIA" I'd join James
Randi in skepticism and request proof
but just "blown away" - is close enough to "passed away",
"carried off", "called to Heaven", that without more specifics
I wouldn't assume the utterer to be paranoid
(though a little proximity alarm might sound)

3) however, the notion of conspiracy is from the farina website,
Robin just quoted it, and characterized it as a doubtlessly dead end.
I don't think Robin was actively intimating a plot...
not that there's anything wrong with that...

4) I'm relatively agnostic as to the possibility of
"Pynchon/paranoia/motorcycle accident/artistic inspiration/
GR dedication" being a thread of importance in
criticism & appreciation of EFT (a nice x-word puzzle word,
always makes me think of "newt" in the same alpha-wave)
-- ie - unless I get an interview with EFT
(damn, that would be cool...
it would be worth starting a magazine and issuing
myself a press card...hmm...others have foundered
on these shoals...let's see: who's he actually invited
to chill with him -
Salman Rushdie that I know of -- ok, memo to self,
write something on the order of _The Satanic Verses_)

5) I'm sympathetic to robin's deeper meanings both
on the occultist front and the Hollander-conspiro-front
-- it seems to me that those possibilities add a frisson,
and there is undeniable textual reference in a more
than Zipfian POLE curve to both these theme-clusters
in the entire P-corpus

6) However, the "main sequence" of my EFT-appreciation
is in the spectrum of natural light (heh-heh, working in
allusion to other thread, 5 points) -- that is to say,
"What is wrong with just figuring that Richard was a
great friend and influence on EFT, even to the extent
of influencing his choice of career -- what's that Tennyson
poem, he goes on & on about that bud of his -- something
like that -- and being both devastated by the fact that
what Barth echoes Arabian phraseology in calling "Death,
the destroyer of pleasures" had come to that great friend
(whether by agency of the Agency or by the (much
likelier?) statistical dangers inherent in motorized travel,
especially of the 2-wheeled type (isn't it true that
highway deaths exceed war deaths every year?)
(and don't emergency room personnel have a term,
"donorcycle"?), and moved to further literary efforts,
perhaps like the eponymous character in the film _Rudy_
was moved by the industrial accident that blew away
his best friend to walk on to the Notre Dame football tryouts
and inspire an eponymous movie?"
