3) the operating assumption is the relevance of the revenge
ethic, when as we all know (on some level), earth needs to
abandon the revenge ethic as a precondition for entering
the Cosmic Federation - the one-way nature of time is
like training wheels for primitive zones that haven't
transcended the revenge ethic: people would be going back
to get back, and that wouldn't do, dontcha know
4) annnd, where is the concept of
a) Triage: traffic and disease still kill more than war,
a trillion dollars and (even more powerful) the work
of all those currently wasting their time securing the oil
...er, bringing Democracy to the 3rd world...
talking about bright, committed, strong people here...
what couldn't they accomplish?
b) budgeting & investment - those trillion dollars,
those untold billions of person-hours could be
thrown (even haphazardly - couldn't be more wasteful and
fraudulent than war!) at one or more huge projects
- space elevator, cold fusion, yada yada...
yielding medium- and even short-term benefits
-- ie, the same contractors, Halliburton - why the
hell not, they are bright and competent people!
could realize MORE money doing useful stuff
-- if they ever twig to that reality, shit will
start to change...
"So listen to my song of life -
you don't need a gun or a knife:
successful conversation will take you very far" - Pete Ham
"It is not difficult to define the place that Linux should occupy in a well- ordered social life. It should be its spiritual core"-Simone Weil, from 'The Need for Boots'
