just found this...
man, that brings some fond memories
I saw him at the Hunter Thompson lecture in '74
and many times around town; he knew me by sight & called me Romeo
for some reason.
I truly believe he was a Bodhisattva.

After graduating from U-M more than 20 years ago, I have rarely looked
back. I have never watched a single football game, and have never
joined the U-M Alumni Society. Maize and Blue footballs, little brown
jugs, and wolverines do not mean a thing to me....
Then, a friend in Ann Arbor sent me an email in Denver saying Shakey
Jake died. Tears filled my eyes, and I had to tell everyone I ever
knew from Ann Arbor about it. It felt like a relative died -- someone
we loved, cared about, and missed greatly. My friends and I, now
scattered all over the world, exchanged dozens of emails, sharing
memories, laughing over our favorite 'Shakey Jake" stories, and
reminiscing. Jake taught us so much: to put ourselves "out there"
everyday, to love everyone, to be ourselves, to sing our own unique
song, and to follow our hearts. Being away from Ann Arbor is suddenly
really tough. I wish I could be there with all of you to remember, to
share, to laugh, and to honor the homeless Prophet so many of us
loved. Tonight, I will light a colorful candle, listen to the blues,
and honor the legend of "Shakey Jake" Woods.
